This 1970 Plymouth Road Runner is a real-deal, factory-born muscle icon that has miraculously escaped the typical frame-off restoration frenzy. It proudly retains its numbers-matching 383ci V8 engine and desirable 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission, offering an authentic slice of Mopar history. This is a nice, driver-level survivor that balances condition with originality, all wrapped up at a very realistic price point.
BODY OVERVIEW:Â
The muscular B-body styling of the 1970 Road Runner is on full display here, presenting a straight and confident silhouette. It sits perfectly on a set of classic Magnum 500 wheels, which provide the quintessential aggressive stance this car deserved from day one. Discerning buyers should note that this car appears to be largely original metal, and there are symmetrical bubbles in the rockers on either side of the car below the doors. Because this Mopar is an un-restored survivor, the body panels carry the honest history of the last several decades, showing a level of preservation that is becoming increasingly difficult to find in a market dominated by over-restored trailer queens. That being said, there are some dings/dents apparent as one would reasonably expect, however this Road Runner presents beautifully regardless.
PAINT CONDITION OVERVIEW:Â
Wearing what appears to be all or mostly original Ivy Green paint, the exterior finish holds a respectable shine and tells an authentic story. As a survivor, it does show its age under close inspection, featuring two notable paint bubbles located on each side of the car just below the rear of the doors. Prospective buyers will also find a fair collection of dings, chips, and older touchups. Rather than detracting from the car, these minor imperfections serve as a badge of honor for a vehicle that has spent its life being driven and enjoyed rather than hidden away.
INTERIOR CONDITION OVERVIEW:Â
The cabin appears to be highly original and remains in great condition by survivor standards. It features the desirable bucket seats split by a factory center console, placing the driver in the ultimate performance cockpit. While it maintains its deep 1970s character, it has been thoughtfully upgraded with an aftermarket air conditioning system that fits seamlessly into the dashboard, proving that you can enjoy classic muscle without melting in the summer heat (and without ruining the original look!).Â
MECHANICAL OVERVIEW:Â
Under the hood, the original numbers-matching 383ci V8 runs beautifully, delivering that signature big-block Mopar rumble through a dual exhaust system. The 727 automatic transmission shifts smoothly, handling power delivery just the way it should. The driving experience is assisted by a set of manual front-disc brakes that provide reliable stopping power–though a little extra leg-power may be required. Last but not least, power steering makes cruising this Mopar a breeze. Overall, this Road Runner is a pleasure to drive and sounds beautiful through dual exhaust!
WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT THIS CAR:Â
You will love the undeniable "street cred" that comes with driving a real-deal, numbers-matching survivor that hasn't been scrubbed of its personality or repainted in a flashy non-original color. The fact that the aftermarket A/C blows ice-cold means you can actually take this car out on a hot July afternoon without regret. It is a turn-key piece of history that starts, runs, and drives beautifully, allowing you to enjoy the classic car hobby immediately instead of spending your weekends waiting on backo |
